RMI President Hilda Heine appointed as first woman Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific

President of the Republic of Marshall Islands Hilda Heine has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific.

She will now play the role as the titular head of the University and will serve a one year term.

Dr. Heine is the eighth President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and is the first Marshallese woman to be chosen as President from 33 members of the Marshall Islands Parliament.

She was officially installed as the 26th Chancellor today during the USP Laucala campus graduation.

  • Ok good, congrats! image
  • Congratulations to the RMI people! One of her daughters is doing well on the world stage--whether in New York, DC, Fiji or wherever she may be. While Chancellor is a titular position, she is highly qualified as President of RMI but also holds a doctorate in Education. It's my understanding that she was the first official President of the College of the Marshall Islands; and is the one who brought CMI to full accreditation is a short couple of years. She brings intellect, charm, political skills, executive experience to the position. Congratulations.
