Biden Renews Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders

Recognizing the significant increase in hate crimes and other discrimination against Asian Americans and other Pacific Islanders, the Biden administration has announce the renewal of an Initiative to "advanc[e] 'equity, justice, and opportunity' for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, including coordinating a 'comprehensive' federal response to the rise in anti-Asian violence and discrimination."

Long overdue. The history of treating Asians and other Pacific region peoples as second class inferior people is well known in the United States. One need not look back at the treatment of Japanese Americans during the Second World War, or the years of the "Yellow Peril" in the late 18th and into the 19th century, or the importation of disposable Chinese labor to build the national railroad (estimates are that more than 1,000 died in building the railroad through the Sierra Nevada and on through Utah), to recognize the history of mistreatment of Asian peoples in the United States.

This animosity has only increased as a result of COVID-19, and the former president's smart-ass comments about the "China Flu," and the "Kung Flu," to the point that anti-Asian hate crimes have increased exponentially over the past year and a half. Hopefully this initiative will improve the treatment of all Asian people, including Pacific Islanders, who contribute so much to the life we enjoy as Americans.

  • After four years of Trump encouraging racism and white supremacy, most Americans wholeheartedly welcome President Biden's exemplary leadership. Biden puts humanity first.
  • Isn't it nice to see the sunset at the top of the list? All the Raper can do is whine. He has no original thoughts, no way of connecting to Micronesia, no self-worth. He only can complain about democrats and other things to which he has no connection and of which he has no knowledge.

Now the sunset is back on top.
