Accentuating the Positive - 2007 Gates Millennium and APIASF Scholarships for Yap

edited May 2007 in General
This message is being posted as a means of accentuating the positive and sharing with the nation the recent accomplishments of Yap State's overachieving secondary school students who competed for and received merit-based scholarships from US organizations. For 2007, two of Yap State's five Gates MIllennium Scholarship finalists were awarded this comprehenisve and prestigious scholarship (which will cover their post-secondary educational expenses from their freshman year through graduate school)! Since 2005, five Yap State students have been awarded the GMS! Also, seven Yap State students were awarded the 2007 Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship! These students began applying for these scholarships early in their senior years and made it through a rigorous screening and selection process! The process of filling out the 22 page application forms was arduous - but indeed became advantageous - as all of our applicants were able to clearly define their post-secondary career and educational goals in narrative form, gain early acceptance and receive their financial aid award letters (well in advance of other students who might miss out on educational opportunities due to late filing of FAFSA's, admissions applications, etc.).

For 2007-08, Yap State already has plans for another Scholarship Club! It would be great to have similar, proactive college prep organizations in all of our states!

Also, for Yapese students - please check out the website for any and all information related to our state scholarship (deadline for fall 07 scholarship applications, transcripts and supporting documents is July 1st). Awarding and subsequent disbursement will take place in early July!

  • CONGRATULATIONS to all of the Yapese students for their efforts in winning these scholarships, indeed they will be the brighter tomorrow. You Yapese should be proud of these students' achievements.
  • Magnificent News!!! Let's share more of those successful stories. I am sure there are a lot of them out there. Keep up the good work guys.
